Miss Ashley Tseng and Mrs. Alex Cochran from Langley High School's National Honor Society are currently working on fundraising and collecting the food items for the 60 needy families:

- Our senior-student volunteers have received admission into the following universities for the Fall of 2013: Yale University, Carnegie Mellon University, California Institute of Technology, Cornell University, Virginia Tech, University of Maryland at College Park, Johns Hopkins Univeristy, Stanford University, and many more. - We collected 58 packs of disposable briefs from a few anonymous donors and delivered them to the Daugthers of Charity of Providence Hospital in DC. Details, please click here.
- The 2013 Back-to-School Project has started already, and we have already begun to raise money and collect supplies for the Fall. Below is information about the project.
Students, parents, and teachers can all make a difference in reducing waste at school. By practicing the "3 Rs" of waste reduction—reduce, reuse, and recycle—we can all do our part. We encouraged our teenage volunteers to work with school teachers and friends to find ways to motivate everyone in their community to make waste reduction a part of their everyday lives. Teens can also look for unique ways to make their schools more waste-free, such as starting a school compost project or ask for a day in art class where you can use things that would have normally been thrown away.Activity contents -- Teens participated the year-round recycle collection fundraising effort to support the following three main projects: 1) collecting canned food on a monthly basis for people in need, 2) supporting back-to-school in July, and 3) preparing food baskets during the Thanksgiving holiday for family in need in DC, MD, VA and WV areas.Before starting a new school year (between now and July), teens will participate by:a) Collecting old shipping boxes (standard size: 16" x 11" ; 2 times copy papers size) with a list of supplies that student need on the top of boxb) Sorting through your old materials and donating your extra old folders and binders with good condition (of course), and all others stationary. (Note: Many of last year's supplies can be reused or recycled.)c) Volunteering to make a list before donors shop for school supplies. This will help the group to remember what needs to be purchased and limit impulse buying. When you have a plan it's easier to take action.d) Scheduling deliverye) Getting ready for school next year by making locker decorations out of old CDs. Decorate them with paint, stickers, rhinestones, or photos; stick magnetic tape to the back; and spruce up your locker! Another great locker decoration: pictures from old magazines that would have been thrown away.

- Feeding Homeless in The Salvation Army Feedmore mobile, the sandwiches making location changed to the Salvation Army Warehouse at 3800 Buena Vista Ave, Baltimore, MD 21211.
- We encourage all of our volunteers to participate in National Crime Victims Rights Week, which will take place April 21-27. This annual observance, first designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, aims to increase public awareness and knowledge about the wide range of rights and services available to people who have been victimized by crime. The Fairfax County Police Department is sponsoring a 5K Walk and Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, April 21 from 4:30-7:30pm. FLYER

- When members of needy families are sent to the ER, they often are in need of new briefs since their old ones were disposed of; therefore, we decided to donate a great number of new disposable briefs to the Daugthers of Charity of Providence Hospital in order to help those who needed them. - Delivered six boxes of canned food to the Seton Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland. In the picture to the left, Hans (one of our volunteers) stands with Sister Salvatrice Murphy.
- We fundraised for the Fairfax County Police Departments Victim Services Section, in total donating 20 $25 gift cards. These funds came from our teenage volunteers' year-long efforts through collecting recycled items as well as from other anonymous donors. Thank you letters can be viewed here.

- Delivered canned food to the Seton Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Their mission is to assist low income families to meet their needs by offering supportive human services.
- Hurricane Sandy Relief Project (November and December 2012). Our teenage volunteers spent their winter holidays gathering together and collecting items to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy, including collecting winter clothing along with food that would later be delivered to various shelters in New Jersey. Hello All, Through the help from all of our volunteers, the money from the underwear sales plus some small cash and recycled items donations all contributed to the cause for people in need. It enabled us to not only help the local people but also to help the international orphans and children in need.
The effect of our "little steps", through sharing and giving, is enormous. We truly do make a difference in the society and hopefully everyone is keeping up with the good work.
If you have ever made a donation to charity groups, you might understand that not every institute is willing to take the time to write thank-you letters or to issue donation receipts to you. Often times they take a while to mail donation receipts to you.
Since we emphasized that we don't have overhead of any administrative expenses, all our volunteers who are involved in the charity cases are "100% volunteered" – meaning that not one cent goes to as the administration fees. All the gas money comes right out from our own pockets, and our financials are open and transparent in public. Our volunteers, as always, try their best to get the donation receipt(s) as soon as they receive the donations.
We would like to clarify one thing though: the Evergreen Senior Care does not do any fundraising for other charity groups but soley for itself. However, since we don't have an account for our charity fund, the fund is actually handled jointly by the Evergreen Senior Care CEO, board members, and one of our volunteers, Yarlin Ho. We post on the website regularly, keeping our readers updated on where all the donations go. The charity group of Evergreen Senior Care is in conjunction with the Salvation Army in Baltimore city, the Providence Hospital in DC, The Daughters of Charity Emmitsburg Province, churches in D.C. area, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC , the Rural Outreach and Immigration Services of Martinsburg, WV and the Victim Services Section of Fairfax County Police Department, to help people in need without charging the administration fee. For the past 10 years, our volunteer activities have included distributing food to the homeless, packing back-to-school supplies in backpacks for low income children, providing Thanksgiving meals to less fortunate families, and distributing over 2,000 stuffed animals to over 40 organizations and hospitals in the Washington metropolitan area.
Below explains how we do the charity work - Once we get a request from our contacts, volunteers will decide the budget of the project by determining the types of materials, supplies and quantity for the needy and planning on how much should be raised or how many items should be collected. Then, we actively work on the fundraising to meet the goal. We do not donate cash to any of these organizations, but when they are at need for goods or food, we try in all our ability to provide assistance as much as possible. We even, sometimes, followed them through the process as they distributed the donations to the people they support.
