Update 11/21/2012:
- The goods volunteers purchased from YOUGIVEGOODS for Help Hurricane Sandy Victims have been delivered to ATLANTIC CITY RESCUE MISSION ( 2009 Bacharach Blvd.,Atlantic City, NJ 08401). Total value of goods purchased: $2,469. (see details)
- 3 minivan donations(details, please see pictures below) have also been delivered to The Fox Trucking Company which they will make a delivery to Neptune, NJ once the truck is full.
With all your help, we have covered both the northern and southern NJ coastline. We have tried our best to bless all victims of Hurricane Sandy.
11/16/2012 and 11/21/2012, four of our volunteers took off from work and drove 3 vans (around 100 boxes) up to the Fox Trucking Company in Easton, Maryland to drop donations for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Fox Trucking Company told us that they are in urgent need of more baby items and winter coats (not clothes). Update 11/15/2012,Our goal is to get the truck completely packed up all the way to the top. The FOX Trucking Company don't want to drive up with a half-empty truck, they said we can try our best to give them the donations anytime before next Tuesday (Thursday is the Thanksgiving Holiday), so they can deliver to the food bank before the Thanksgiving Holiday. So, we will continue to collect donations till 11/19/2012.
Update 11/14/2012, News on the world journal (世界新聞網)
Update 11/13/2012, The Fox Trucking Company in Easton, MD 21601 will provide FREE delivery to the food bank in Neptune, NJ. This location is closer to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Fox Trucking Company had asked that items to be placed in boxes only, not bags. They will not only take the items on the list which the shelter requested below, but also take the non-perishable food items.Next week is Thanksgiving and I am sure you can imagine the plethora of victims who will be without homes or without their families next weekend due to the disarray Hurricane Sandy caused in the New Jersey region.
We have contacted many non-profit organizations but they are all in need of the same items to help the homeless in their areas. So, we have decided to take initiative and deliver the items up to New Jersey ourselves.
As for the non-food drive: (collecting will end at 11/15 Thu.)
Two of our volunteers, Mr. Ming-Ching Chen and Mr. Mark Liau, are willing to drive a U-Haul truck up to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission in the Atlantic city of New Jersey this upcoming Friday. Please note, we are looking for someone to donate money to cover the transportation costs (the U-Haul truck, gas, and E-Z pass fees). We can get these fees tax-deducted as well. The following is a list of immediate items that the victims are in need of:

- Drinking cups, 12 - 16 oz size

***I hope everyone can respect the victims and make sure your donations are clean and washed before you hand them off to us. If you would like a donation receipt, please prepare a count of the items you are donating on the paper and we will write a receipt for you. Also, please keep in mind of the items on the list and try to donate those items only since available space on the SHELTER is clearly a concern.

- During the recent rough economic years, a lot of people have been turning to nonprofits to find relief, but some of those groups have had to cut back due to lack of funds. The job opportunities are also impacted across the country. Many people who made charitable contributions in the past are now struggling from paycheck to paycheck. A lot of individuals and families are, in fact, getting first-hand experience at what it's like to be on the flip side of the situation, trying to manage after losing a home or job or both. Thus, as we've already seen, the donations are down tremendously this year.With our limited resources and funds, however, we once again helped more than 100 students back to school successfully on August 2012. Winter and the holidays are approaching, and many of us are looking forward to the annual warm meal that will be provided to us on Thanksgiving Day. Unfortunately, there are families in the near area who cannot afford a simple meal for the holidays, let alone the sufficient clothing for the oncoming cold winter! To help these families, our community is organizing a fundraiser to collect preservative items and winter clothing. We will package and deliver the collected items to charities across the Baltimore and Washington D.C areas. Aug & Sep: Back-To-School Project packing and delivery
July: Back-To-School Project Aimed at Helping Children In Need
In a United Nations report (http://www.un.org/works/goingon/poverty/jessica_story.html), the UN shared a sad story with all of us -- Over 12 million American children suffer from poverty, and it infects every aspect of their lives—from family relations, to school friendships to dreams for the future. Although the family isn't homeless, they have only $120 each month to buy food. Often, there isn't enough to last the month, so some children who went to school turned to charity for help.
This year, we teamed up with two Catholic Sisters, one in DC and one in West Virginia, to help a total of 50 children and one school in west Virginia from low income families. The Sisters are willing to help all, regardless of race, sex or nationality, and they believe that all have the right to nutritious food and healthcare. It is hard to believe that in a country as prosperous as the United States, children like those in Yangon, Myanmar go hungry every day. Also, as the economy is worsened, there are families scrambling for food and children searching for supplies that they can use for each school year, but they nearly have enough supplies to last them a semester. There are an increasing number of families who are unable to provide their children with sufficient school supplies, and that is why I am writing to you today to ask for your support of this effort.

We also make a price suggestion for you so that you can find the best deals. This is a great way to have a real, positive impact on a child's life. - The Dankyi family is now back in their original home, which has been restored and fixed with the help of insurance company. With the help of passionate good-heared volunteers, this case has been closed after being worked on for 4 months.

International Free Clinic 無國界醫療 : A group of nurses, including a nurse practitioner (is one of our volunteers), from Villanova University are going on a medical mission trip to Chulucanas, Peru in South America on March 3 through March 10. Thank you to Dr. Benson Yu, MD, Fairfax, VA, Internal Medicine for sponsoring most of the medicine that was brought along on the trip.
Volunteers will work at an Augustinian Mission in a small city of Chulucanas in northern Peru. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with the local people and experience the Peruvian culture while accomplishing various tasks necessary for the community, such as cleaning, painting, and tutoring at the local parochial school, working at a local orphanage and elderly home, visiting a trade school for women, and taking a trip to and purchase items from an authentic Chulucanas pottery workshop.

CASE report from a volunteer:
The Dankyi family is going through much difficulty. Their house was completely burned to the ground. They are a family of eight total, a husband, wife, and six boys, and are of limited economic means. The boys' ages range from 20 months to 16 years old. All their personal belongings were burned, so clothes, shoes and food is of essence for the children to go to school. It would be extremely helpful if we could get a few things for this family to help them in this curtail times of their lives. The husband was injured due to his work, so he is unable to work anymore and is now on bed rest. The entire family relies on the mother's income; the mother is a nursing assistant at a hospital. We will be collecting necessary everyday items for the family. Every contribution counts. If you are interested in contributing, please contact us at "evergreenseniorcare@gmail.com".

Hello All, Through the helps from all volunteers, the money from the underwear sales plus some small amount of cash and recycled items donations assembled a "Huge" help for the people in need. It enabled us not only helped the local people but also helped the international orphans and children in need.
The effect of our "little steps", through sharing and giving, that we took around with us daily is enormous. We do make a difference and hope everyone is keeping up with the good work doing the charity together.
If you have had ever to make donation to charity groups, you might understand that not every institute is willing to take the time to write Thank you letter or to issue donation receipt to you. However, they would mail you for collecting cash or goods only.
Since we emphasized that we don't have overhead of any administrative expenses, all our volunteers who involve in the charity cases are "100% volunteered" – meaning that not one cent goes to as the administration fees. All gas money is coming out from volunteers' own pockets. Our financial is open and transparent in public. Our volunteers, as always, try the best to get the donation receipt(s) at the same time when the donations are delivered to the needy.
At here, we would like to clarify one thing though: the Evergreen Senior Care does not do any fundraising for others charity groups but for itself. However, since we don't have an account for our charity fund, the fund is actually handled jointly by the Evergreen Senior Care CEO, board members and volunteer Yarlin Ho. The charity group of Evergreen Senior Care in conjunction with the Salvation Army in Baltimore city, Red Cross, SHARE at McLean, the Providence Hospital in DC, The Daughters of Charity Emmitsburg Province, churches in D.C. area, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC , the Rural Outreach and Immigration Services of Martinsburg, WV and the Victim Services Section of Fairfax County Police Department, to help people in need does not charge the administration fee. During the past 9 years, our volunteer activities included distributing food to the homeless, packing back-to-school supplies in backpacks for low income children, providing Thanksgiving meals to less fortunate families, and distributing over 2,000 stuffed animals to over 40 organizations and hospitals in the Washington metropolitan area.
Below explain how we do the charity work - Once we get a request from our contacts, volunteers will decide the budget of the project by determining the types of materials, supplies and quantity for the needy and planning on how much should be raised or how many items should be collected. Then, we actively work on the fundraising to meet the goal. We do not donate cash to any of these organizations, but when they are at need for goods or food, we try in all our ability to provide assistance as much as possible. We even, sometimes, followed them through the process as they distributed the donations to the people they support.
